English
Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be laid waste, and a house divided against a house will fall.

Notes

  • Knowing their thoughts: See 5:22; 7:40; 9:47.

  • Every kingdom divided against itself: Jesus first responded to the accusation by saying it is impossible for him to work for Satan. He was destroying Satan's kingdom by driving out demons.

Jesus faced two challenges. He answered the first, an accusation that he was driving out demons by Satan's power (11:15), in 11:17–26. The second was a demand for "a sign from heaven" (11:16). He answered this in 11:29–32.
