That thou mayest say to the prisoners, Go forth; to them that are in darkness, Shew yourselves. They shall feed in the ways, and their pastures shall be in all high places.

…to say to the prisoners, ‘Go forth!’ To those in the darkness, ‘Be uncovered!’ Along the pathways they will graze, and on all the bare slopes will be their pastures.

Notes

This is traditionally seen as the second of four songs about a suffering servant (see study note on Isaiah 42:1–4). The servant's role in suffering becomes clearer (see also Isaiah 50:4–9; 52:13–53:12).
