“Here,” said Abram, “your servant is in your hands. Do whatever you want with her.” Then Sarai treated Hagar so harshly that she fled from her.

But Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, thy maid is in thy hand; do to her as it pleaseth thee. And when Sarai dealt hardly with her, she fled from her face.
Literal
And Abram said to Sarai, “Indeed, your maidservant is in your hand. Do to her what is good in your eyes.” And Sarai dealt harshly with her, and she fled from her presence.
Latin
Cui respondens Abram: Ecce, ait, ancilla tua in manu tua est, utere ea ut libet. Affligente igitur eam Sarai, fugam iniit.

Notes

Hagar might have thought Abram would favor her instead of Sarai (compare Proverbs 30:21–23).

While they waited for their promised son to be born, Abram and Sarai tried another plan. This plan did not show trust in God.
