They will no longer defile themselves with their idols or detestable images, or with any of their transgressions. I will save them from all their apostasies by which they sinned, and I will cleanse them. Then they will be My people, and I will be their God.
Traditional
Neither shall they defile themselves any more with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions: but I will save them out of all their dwellingplaces, wherein they have sinned, and will cleanse them: so shall they be my people, and I will be their God.
Literal
And they will not defile themselves anymore with their idols, and with their abominations, and with all their transgressions; and I will save them from all their apostasies in which they have sinned, and I will cleanse them; and they will be unto Me as a people, and I will be unto them as God.
Latin
…neque polluentur ultra in idolis suis, et abominationibus suis, et cunctis iniquitatibus suis: et salvos eos faciam de universis sedibus in quibus peccaverunt, et emundabo eos: et erunt mihi populus, et ego ero eis Deus.

Notes

When the kingdoms were joined together again, the problems that had caused the division would also be solved.

In the past, King Rehoboam’s harsh and unfaithful leadership divided the nation (1 Kings 12). Now God would give his people one servant leader, a shepherd king. Like David, this king would unite the tribes.

The restored people would also be made clean again. God would remove their idols and other sinful practices. The Lord would once again be their God.

After being made pure, they would obey the Lord’s laws and live in the land forever.

The prophet then performed a sign action (see “Prophetic Sign Acts” Theme Note) that showed the future reunification of God's people and the healing of the division between the northern and southern tribes (see 1 Kings 12).
