For when ye offer your gifts, when ye make your sons to pass through the fire, ye pollute yourselves with all your idols, even unto this day: and shall I be enquired of by you, O house of Israel? As I live, saith the Lord God, I will not be enquired of by you.

For in your lifting up your gifts, and making your sons pass through the fire, you are defiling yourselves with all your idols, even to this day. And shall I be consulted by you, O house of Israel? As I live, a declaration of the Lord YHWH, I will not be consulted by you!

Ezekiel 20:27–31

When they reached the promised land, the people of Israel continued to speak against and betray the Lord. Their idol worship and wickedness persisted until Ezekiel's time. The Lord would not answer such unfaithful people.
