Which yet my soul seeketh, but I find not: one man among a thousand have I found; but a woman among all those have I not found.
Literal
…that which my soul still has sought, and I have not found: One man from a thousand have I found, and a woman among all these I have not found.
Latin
…quam adhuc quærit anima mea, et non inveni. Virum de mille unum reperi; mulierem ex omnibus non inveni.
Original
Hebrew
English
While my soul was still searching but not finding, among a thousand I have found one upright man, but among all these I have not found one such woman.
Notes
The New Living Translation adds the phrase "is virtuous" (based on Ecclesiastes 7:29) to clarify the verse. Virtue is very rare. The Teacher found only a few virtuous men and no virtuous women in his experience.
