Notes

Moses added commands to decrees and regulations. This was the usual pattern for covenant stipulations (the laws in a covenant agreement; see 4:1; 5:1). The term commandments is a general term that refers to the whole body of instruction.

Moses here explains how the stipulations in the following sections should be applied and handed on to future generations.
