Notes

God's faithfulness was very different from his people's unfaithfulness and rebellion. When Daniel confessed his people's sins, he included himself (Daniel 9:5), even though he lived a praiseworthy life (see “Community Identity” Theme Note).

Daniel prayed a high priestly prayer for his people, using many quotes and references from the Torah (the instructions God gave through Moses), the prophets (God’s messengers), and the psalms (songs and prayers used in worship).

To You, O Lord, belongs righteousness: God planned the exile to judge unfaithful Israel (Daniel 9:11–14). God had warned them many times that it would occur (see Deuteronomy 28:36–37, 49–68).
