English
I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make for you a name like that of the greatest in the land.

Notes

  • I have been with you: God guided and protected David throughout his life. In this way, God was actively involved in shaping everything David did.

  • I will make for you a name like the greatest in the land: God promised to make a person’s name great only to Abraham and to David (see Genesis 12:2).

Instead of David building a house for God, God promised to build a house for David, meaning a lasting line of kings from David’s family.

David was not happy just making a tent for the ark (2 Samuel 6:17). He wanted to build a house for God.
