Notes

The third example of judgment is that God condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. The people in these cities were very evil, so God sent sulfur and fire from the sky to destroy them (Genesis 19:24). Peter focuses on the result of this action: The cities were turned into heaps of ashes.

Three examples of judgment in the Old Testament show that God will protect and vindicate people who remain faithful to him. These examples also show that God will condemn those who deny him, including the false teachers (see 2:3).
