Notes
In line with the start of the prayer (2 Chronicles 6:15–17), Solomon asks God to remember his constant love for David. This refers to the covenant promise God made to David (1 Chronicles 17:4–14; see Isaiah 55:3).
Solomon’s prayer ends with a quote from a psalm (Psalm 132:8–10). This prayer marked the final step in moving the ark to its place in the temple. Prayers with psalms also accompanied David’s move of the ark to Jerusalem (1 Chronicles 16:7–36). Solomon’s use of a psalm reminds us of when the ark first reached its rightful place.
God is called to arise, not for war (compare Numbers 10:35), but to rest in the temple.
