Notes

Lower Beth-horon was an important defense site for western Judah. Several cities in Canaan were called Baalath; the one here was likely also known as Kiriath-jearim (see 2 Samuel 6:2; Joshua 15:9; 1 Chronicles 13:5, 6). Tamar was probably located in the southeastern part of the Holy Land (see Ezekiel 47:19; 48:28).

Solomon used forced labor to finish many construction projects (1 Kings 4:6; 5:13–18; 9:20–23; 12:4, 18–19; compare 1 Samuel 8:10–18).
