1 Corinthians 8:7

Food Sacrificed to Idols · 1 Corinthians 8:1–13
Read 1 Corinthians 8

Translations

Modern
But not everyone has this knowledge. Some people are still so accustomed to idols that they eat such food as if it were sacrificed to an idol. And since their conscience is weak, it is defiled.
Traditional
Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.
Literal
But the knowledge is not in all. And some, by habit of the idol until now, eat such as a thing sacrificed to an idol; and their conscience being weak, it is defiled.
Latin
Sed non in omnibus est scientia. Quidam autem cum conscientia usque nunc idoli, quasi idolothytum manducant: et conscientia ipsorum cum sit infirma, polluitur.

Notes

Many Corinthian believers grew up in a pagan world and saw eating such meat as worshiping the god it was sacrificed to. For these Christians, eating meat offered to an idol would go against their weak consciences (see 8:10–12; 10:28–29; Romans 14:13–23).
