It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father’s wife.

Notes

sexual immorality: A man was having sexual relations with his stepmother. Even pagans did not engage in such behavior. It violated both the law of Moses (see Leviticus 18:7–8) and Roman law (Gaius, Institutes 1.63).

Paul addresses sexual immorality in the church and tells the Christians to remove an unashamed wrongdoer from fellowship.
