Study note

Genesis 32:24

  • a man wrestled: The story develops just as it did for Jacob. We do not know any details about the attacker, who later refused to reveal his identity (32:29).

  • until daybreak: The darkness matched Jacob’s situation, adding to his fear and uncertainty. In the dark, he could not tell who it was. It might have been one of Esau’s or Laban’s men.
