Captured war booty and gifts from foreign rulers were placed in God’s treasury, not in the king’s treasury. David dedicated both voluntary gifts (2 Samuel 8:11a) and goods taken from defeated enemies (2 Samuel 8:11b–12) to the Lord, instead of keeping them for himself.
