Study note

Judges 18:28

Beth-rehob might have been an Aramean kingdom to the north (2 Samuel 10:6). The Danite warriors captured this defenseless city without heroism or a holy war. Dan fulfilled Jacob’s mixed blessing by abandoning the high calling of governing his people (Genesis 49:16). Instead, they became a snake by the road, a viper in the path that bites the horse’s heels so that its rider tumbles backward (Genesis 49:17).
