The Israelites traveled along the east side of Edom.
Iye-abarim means "ruins of Abarim" or "ruins of the region beyond." It was probably near the northern bank of Zered Brook (compare Deuteronomy 2:13–14). This brook separated ancient Edom from Moab (Deuteronomy 2:8–25).
