The goal of our instruction: Paul intends to encourage a life committed to God that comes from sincere faith and spiritual renewal (see Titus 3:5; see also 1 Corinthians 13:1–13; Colossians 3:14).
In 1 Timothy and Titus, references to a clear conscience contrast with the false teachers’ dead consciences (for example, 1 Timothy 1:19; 4:2; Titus 1:15).
