For He Himself is our peace: We have peace with God (2:16–17; Romans 5:1, 10–11, 18–21; Colossians 1:20–22). There is also peace between Jews and gentiles (see Ephesians 2:15–16; 4:3).
has torn down the dividing wall of hostility: Social and religious practices traditionally divided Jews from gentiles. A low wall around the temple in Jerusalem marked the boundary that gentiles could not cross. It symbolized the separation Jews maintained from gentiles.
