a remnant: Paul refers back to the Old Testament idea of the remnant that he used in 9:27–29. A remnant refers to a small group of people who remain faithful when many others do not.
This faithful group of Israelites shows that God continues to keep his promises. It also shows that God remains faithful to his people.
