The blind receive sight, the lame walk: The prophet Isaiah describes God’s salvation as the renewal of his fallen creation (Isaiah 26:19; 29:18–19; 35:5–6; 61:1–2). Jesus did not come to end Roman rule over Judea. This may explain why he leaves out the words "proclaim liberty to the captives" when he quotes Isaiah 61:1. He came for a greater purpose: to reverse the effects of sin and death.
