Mark 11:7–8

  • the colt ... He sat on it: Compare Zechariah 9:9. Some of the people surely understood that they were witnessing the arrival of the Messiah (the Christ, God's chosen king).

  • The disciples made a seat for Jesus by placing their outer garments (cloaks) on the colt. Other people spread clothing and branches from nearby trees along the road as an act of honor while Jesus rode into Jerusalem (see 1 Kings 1:38–48; 2 Kings 9:13).
