1. to bring to light, cause to appear (so most frequently in cl.).

2. Absol., to give light, shine (Hom., Plat., al.): John 1:5; 5:35, 2 Peter 1:19, 1 John 2:8, Revelation 1:16; 8:12; 18:23; 21:23.
