(πατήρ), [in LXX chiefly for אָב, Exodus 6:14, al., also for מִשְׁפָּחָה, Exodus 6:15, 2 Kings 14:7, Psalm 22:27, al. ;]

1. lineage, ancestry (Hdt.).

2. = πάτρα (more common in cl.), a family or tribe (so sometimes in Hdt., in LXX of related people, in a sense narrower than φυλή and wider than οἶκος; see Exodus 12:3, Numbers 32:28): Luke 2:4; in a wider sense (1 Chronicles 16:28, Psalm 22:27), Acts 3:25" (LXX) Ephesians 3:15.
